Why the New Generation of Camera Bags Resembles Military Gear

It sits on the airport floor. In the afternoon, it rests on rocks, gravel, and wet forest paths. The following day, it accompanies its owner through the metropolis. The modern backpack must be able to withstand far more than camera gear. That is why it borrows its design language from a world where durability has never been up for negotiation.

A Backpack Is No Longer Just a Backpack For photographers; it must protect expensive equipment. For the adventurous, it needs to handle rain, impacts, and long days on the move. And for many, it must fit in just as seamlessly at the airport as on a mountain trail or at a HYROX training session.

This trend is clearly felt at 55.7° North, which is now introducing PGYTECH’s OneMo Tactical series in the Nordic region—and the OneMo Tactical Backpack 35L has just scored 9 out of 10 in review testing.

”We are seeing that more people want a single backpack that can do it all. Previously, many had different bags for different purposes. Today, they value flexibility, well-thought-out details, and high quality—whether they are taking photos, travelling, or leading an active everyday life,” says Philip Jacobi Zahle, CSMO at 55.7° North.

Tested by the Nordic Region’s Largest Photo Magazine, the OneMo Tactical Backpack 35L has just scored 9 out of 10 points in a test by Digital FOTO, which highlights the backpack’s solid build quality, high carrying comfort, and well-thought-out features.

Among other things, the magazine points to the adjustable harness system, modular compartment layout, quick access to gear from multiple sides, water-resistant YKK zippers, hidden tracking pocket, and battery indicators that make it easy to keep track of charged and used batteries.

Furthermore, the integrated MOLLE system allows users to attach additional gear to the outside of the backpack—a feature that helps give the bag its distinctive, military-inspired look.

One Backpack. Many Destinations. The PGYTECH OneMo Tactical is developed for people who move between multiple worlds. The modular design allows you to configure the bag for camera gear, travel equipment, or a combination of both, while the robust construction is built to withstand everything from city pavements to rugged mountain trails.

The bag is available in 25 and 35 liters. The 35-liter model can also be adjusted to the user’s height for enhanced carrying comfort.

For 55.7° North, the launch represents a trend where the boundaries between photography, travel, outdoor life, and everyday routines are becoming increasingly blurred—and where one backpack must increasingly keep up with people who rarely stick to a single destination.
